研究方向：我的研究兴趣主要集中在早期四足类的分类、演化以及相关的地层、古生态、古地理问题；从时代来说重点是二叠、三叠纪，从门类来说主要是非哺乳类的下孔类以及海生爬行动物。此外对系统学的理论、方法及实践也有兴趣。近二十年来主持、参加过国内外多地的地层古生物考察以及化石发掘。野外遍及中国二叠、三叠系陆相地层分布的地方，目前集中在准噶尔盆地、鄂尔多斯盆地。我指导学生研究门类龟鳖类、鳄类、锯齿龙类、蛇类、二齿兽类。
