主要从事水文气象学研究,在国内外期刊发表SCI论文七十余篇(第一作者28篇)。研究成果被Science、Nature、PNAS和IPCC等引用和报道。多次在美国地球物理学会(AGU)年会、美国气象学会(AMS)年会、亚洲大洋洲地球物理学会(AOGS)年会以及国内学术会议作邀请报告,并因发现高原边界层内水滴的蒸发冷却对边界层和对流云发展的影响机理获2003年北京国际气候会议青年科学家奖。
研究组在青藏高原开展了帕隆藏布4号冰川湍流站、阿里和慕士塔格湍流站、以及那曲地区包括56个台站的多尺度土壤温度和水分观测网的建设和观测。
