Abstract
Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) are the two most abundant mineral nutrients for plants, and also the mostly used fertilizer elements driving crop yield improvement in agricultural production. The coordinated utilization of N and P is essential for maintaining the optimal plant growth and achieving the maximal crop yield. Usually, the signaling pathways of N and P are studied separately, so the knowledge towards to understanding N‐P interaction is very limited. A series of recent studies have revealed the critical components regulating N‐P interaction in bothArabidopsis thalianaand rice (Oryza sativa), which shed light on in‐depth understanding the network integrating N and P signaling pathways. Here, we summarized these recent progresses on N‐P interaction and proposed the possible working mechanisms integrating these N‐P interactive regulation pathways. Lastly, we further discussed the future work which might be helpful for painting the entire picture of the N‐P interactive regulation network in plants.
