主要从事软件定义网络、未来互联网体系结构、网络测量分析等方面的科研工作，先后承担国家973、国家863、国家自然科学基金等科研项目，在国际期刊、国际会议以及国内核心期刊发表学术论文100多篇，获得国家发明专利20多项。相关技术已经授权阿里巴巴、中国移动、华为、Aglient、PPTV等公司应用；研制完成的系统已经在国家相关部门得到规模部署与应用。

先后担任ACM Sigcomm 2015、ACM CoNEXT 2014/2015、IEEE Infocom 2014～2016、IEEE ICNP 2014、IEEE IWQoS 2014等多个国际会议委员会或者程序委员会委员。获得国家科技进步二等奖，中国计算机学会技术发明二等奖、省部级科技进步奖以及Nokia奖教金、所长奖教金，获得FFCSA Gilles Kahn奖。

除了网络研究，他还是尤文图斯足球队的球迷与法拉利F1车队的车迷。
