研究领域1. 北温带间断植物类群的遗传多样性、分子系统学和生物地理学
使用核和叶绿体基因片段重建系统发育树，结合化石，古地质和古生态资料重建北温带间断类群的演化历史，目前研究类群包括漆树科的清香木属、盐肤木属和黄栌属；金缕梅科的金缕梅属；五加科的葱木属、人参属；蔷薇科的蔷薇属和苹果属等。

2. 固氮分支生物多样性和生命之树系统发育重建重建
利用多个核和叶绿体基因片段重建蔷薇目，及该目下鼠李科、大麻科和榆科的系统发育树，结合古地质、古气候和化石证据推断类群的起源，现在分布格局形成的历史和物种多样化历史。

3. 中国栽培植物的起源和野生近缘类群的种质保护
中国是世界最主要作物驯化中心之一。现代重要的经济作物如水稻、粟、大豆、茶、桃、柑橘、杏和李等最早在我国驯化。本研究组将利用分子标记技术(AFLP和ISSRs, SSRs等)和DNA序列数据对我国驯化的作物开展以下研究：1）在何时、何地和有多少次被驯化？ 2）栽培作物和其野生祖先的生物多样性和种质保护。研究类群涉及大豆（Glycine soja (L.) Sieb. et Zucc.）、粟（Setaria italica (L.) Beauv.）、苹果（Malus domestica Borkh）、梨（Pyrus spp.）、桃（Prunus persica L.）、杏（Prunus armeniaca L.）、梅（Prunus mume Siebold & Zucc.）等。
