1984年毕业于山东莱阳农学院，获学士学位，同年考入北京农业大学硕士研究生
1986年-1993年日本国立鹿儿岛大学留学，获硕士、博士学位，并从事日本学术振兴会博士后研究
1993年回国并被聘为中国农业大学副教授
1996年晋升为教授、博士生导师

农学与生物技术学院副院长，国务院学位委员会作物学科评议组成员，农业部甘薯生物学与遗传育种重点实验室学术委员会主任，中国作物学会副秘书长，中国农业生物技术学会常务理事，《作物学报》和《分子植物育种》编委、《作物杂志》副主编等。
教学工作
主讲《遗传学》、《作物遗传育种专题》、《作物科学研究进展》等课程，主编“十一五”国家级规划教材《遗传学》和《植物细胞组织培养》，先后主持10项教育部和北京市教改项目。
研究方向
甘薯分子育种与细胞工程。
课题项目
先后主持国家“863”、国家自然科学基金、国家科技支撑计划、国际合作项目等近30项，现为国家甘薯产业技术体系生物技术育种岗位科学家。

发表学术论文150余篇，其中SCI收录28篇；获得国家发明专利3项；育成国家鉴定甘薯新品种‘农大6-2’。主编《甘薯育种学》等著作5部。
