针对定量遥感研究前沿,系统开展多角度多光谱遥感研究,先后主持自然科学重点基金项目以及973、863课题,发表论文200余篇,其中SCI收录80余篇。先后任《遥感学报》、《全国高校地理信息系统教学丛书》编委,RS、JSTARS等英文期刊客座编辑。2005年入选教育部新世纪优秀人才计划,2014年获北京师范大学“通鼎青年教师奖”和优秀博士论文指导教师荣誉,2016年当选IEEE高级会员。
在科学研究方面,研制了机载多角度多光谱成像仪和第一台机载多角度电力巡线系统,从理论上阐明了遥感建模验证的地面最优视场;创立了路径长度分布法,将叶面积指数的间接测量精度提高了一倍以上;面向遥感像元尺度,构建地表方向性发射率模型,突破了MODIS算法的局限,实现了机载和星载红外遥感数据的角度纠正,进一步建立了复杂地形及有云条件下的参数化辐射模型,首次利用遥感数据阐释了云辐射增强现象。
在教学方面,开设地理信息科学专业本科生学科基础课《遥感原理》(后改名《遥感概论》),地图学与地理信息系统专业硕士学位基础课《遥感原理与应用》(后改名《遥感原理与模型》)。所培养学生有19人获国内大学/科研机构高级职称,3人在国外高校任教,2人获北京市科技新星,1人参加了国家优秀青年科学基金答辩。
在管理与社会服务方面,协助李小文院士创立了遥感与GIS研究中心,先后任遥感中心主任助理、地图学与GIS教研室主任、地球空间信息研究所所长、遥感科学与工程研究院副院长等职。现任遥感科学国家重点实验室副主任,分管北师大分部的工作。
