We find that a high proportion of CO2 emissions embodied in China's industrial exports were emitted by small and medium enterprises. The emission intensities for exports (EIEs) show that large enterprises exported cleaner than small and medium ones. To identify the driving forces of the EIE gaps, we have employed a structural decomposition analysis. The substitution of imported for domestically produced intermediate inputs is found to be one of the most important determinants that drove the lower EIE of large enterprises. Differences in export bundles, direct emission coefficients and production technology are other important determinants. | | | |
