 EDUCATION AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Yitai Qian was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province in January 1941. He graduated from the Department of Chemistry, Shandong University in 1962. He currently serves as Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He started working in University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1962. During 1982-1985, professor Qian participated in the Department of Chemistry of Brown University as a visiting scholar, then he experienced as a visiting professor in Purdue University during 1992-1993. Since 1994, professor Qian worked in USTC as both professor and doctoral supervisor. He was elected as an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997. From March 2000 to March 2005, professor Qian was appointed as the Dean of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science of USTC. During 2008-2012, he also served as a Dean of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Shandong University. From June 2000 to June 2006, professor Qian was Vice President of Chinese chemical society council. Since June 2008, he acted as the counselor of Chinese Chemical Society. In 2008, professor Qian became the Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Professor Qian, as corresponding author, has published more than 800 refereed journal publications including Science, J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater. with citations by important international journals exceeding 20000 times. Professor Qian was awarded the Second Class of the National Nature Science Award in 2001,the Major Achievements in Science and Technology in Anhui Province in 2002, the first Class of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award and the Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of HO LEUNG HO LEE FOUNDATION in 2015. The book “Introduction to the Crystal Chemistry” written by professor Qian was awarded the Top-quality teaching materials of Ministry of Education in 2009. Furthermore, Professor Qian pays much attention to the cultivation of students, and has tutored more than 90 Ph.D. and postdoctor, among them 7 people have achieved the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 5 people have been selected to Chang Jiang Scholars Program, and 2 people have gained the National Science Fund for outstanding Young Scholars.

 RESEARCH INTERESTS
Prof. Qian’s major interest covers the fields of solid state chemistry for both chemical synthesis of nanomaterials and the exploration of new superconducting materials. He established and developed some chemical synthetic methods of nanomaterials such as solvothermal, γ-ray irradiation, mixed-solvothermal and molten-salt thermal. The work of benzothermal synthesis of GaN was published on the Science in 1996. Moreover, the work of synthesis of diamond powders at relative low temperature by a catalytic reducing pyrolysis was published on the Science 1998. Professor Qian has put his interest in the preparation of Li-ion battery electrode materials through chemical routes in recent years.
